Fly Fishing - Book Cover
The extended version of Fly Fishing is at the printers, ready for its release in mid-September. I'll soon have stock of the book to sign and send. (Signed copies will available to purchase in the Priory Shop.)
Fly Fishing is the fifth title in the Fennel's Journal series. Originally written in 2009, it's now extended with nine new chapters. Here's a glimpse of the new cover.
Front cover
The front cover of Fly Fishing shows a brown trout caught from my local river following the house move that inspired me to write this book. It's the fish mentioned in 'Local Fishing', one of the nine new chapters in this extended edition.
I'd dreamt for years of owning a little cottage near to a trout stream, where I could safely leave a bamboo fly rod and net set up in the porch, and be able to walk to the water after work for a few cherished hours fishing. This fish was the first to be caught after I realised my dream, so it's apt to feature on the cover of my fly fishing book.
Inside front cover
The inside flap of the front cover features a summary of the book and its philosophy, specifically how I believe that fishing, and fly fishing especially, is an art form that brings us close to nature and a sense of rejuvenation from our time spent outdoors.
Rear cover
The rear cover features me sitting on a fisherman's bench beside the River Windrush during a quiet interlude where I'm reading Jerome K. Jerome's 'The Idle Thoughts of an Idle Fellow'. Just the sort of reading for my leisurely style of fishing.
Inside rear cover
The inside rear cover shows a picture of me from 2009. It was taken while escaping for a short fishing session, which resulted in a chapter in the book entitled 'A Grilling for a Trout'; hence my slightly smug look as my other half thought I was diligently watching over a barbeque in advance of entertaining guests and not, as was happening, indulging my fly-fishing passion at a nearby lake.
